Shinto priest, Ashizu was born in Fukuoka, Japan in 1962.

Upon graduating from Department of Shinto, Faculty of Letters at Kogakkan University, he began serving at the Atsuta Shrine (1985).

From 1987 he moved to Jinja Honcho (The Association of Shinto Shrines) and held various positions there: Senior Office for Training and Development (1997), Director of General Affairs Division, General Affairs Department (1999), Director of Data and Information Analysis and Management Division, General Affairs Department (2001), Director of Division of Teaching, Education Department (2004), Director of International Affairs Division, Liaison Department (2005), Director-General of Finance Department (2008) and Director-General of Press and Public Relations Department (2010).

He served as the Senior Priest (2012) and was subsequently appointed as Deputy Chief Priest at the Munakata Grand Shrine in 2013.
